WORKOUT RECAP

Last week was quite hectic, so I didn't end up writing my previous week's recap.  I'm back on the bandwagon, people!

I have to upgrade my teaching license by June, or it expires, and part of the process is taking a test.  I took that test on Saturday, so studying really affected my workouts.

WORKOUT RECAP

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!  I loved my days off work.  It definitely makes it difficult to go back tomorrow.

{Monday} 3 mile treadmill run

{Tuesday} Nada

{Wednesday} Same

{Thursday} Thankful 13 Half Marathon

{Friday} 2 mile walk with Duncan

{Saturday} Zip, zilch.

{Sunday} 3 mile walk with Duncan

Definitely not the most active week, but hey, I ran a half marathon, right? That counts for something.

I am excited for a change of pace this week.  I am going to continue running, but I'm not signing up for any races until I go to the fertility doctor next week.  If they say I can continue running, I will be signing up for another race.

So, next week's plan:
M: 4 miles
T: Power pump
W: Yoga
Th: Power pump
F:
S: 7 miles

WORKOUT RECAP

I felt proud of myself for making my workouts happen this week.  Can anyone else feel the winter lazies trying to creep into their lifestyle?

{Monday} 3 mile treadmill run

{Tuesday} Rest

{Wednesday} 4.75 mile run.  This was supposed to be 5 miles, but it was getting dark, and my path was taking me into a sketchy nighttime area...so I decided to turn around.

Oh, also...if you pack your bag in the dark before you go to work, make sure you actually grab running clothes, not just black leggings.  They're not the same.  Just so you know.

I must say though, I was proud that I made an outdoor run happen after work.  Those are pretty much nonexistent these days.

{Thursday} Power pump class.  This class has a different instructor.  Both the Tuesday and Thursday classes are hard, but they are a different type of hard.  The Thursday instructor does a lot of high intensity interval training -- and it never fails to get my heart racing.  I guess that's the point -- and it feels great, but it certainly is a hard workout!

{Friday} Rest

{Saturday} 45 minute stationary bicycle

This Week's Plan:
Well, my race is on Thursday, but I'm not really "racing" it...so I'm unsure. Here's what I'm thinking, though...
Running: 3, 13, 3
2 Yoga classes?

What are you going to do Thanksgiving morning to get your blood moving & metabolism fired up?  It's not too late to sign up for a 5k run/walk!  Grab a friend and kill two birds with one stone!  You'll make a great memory and feel better throughout the day!

WORKOUT RECAP

I  am excited to post today, because I had such a great run this morning!

WORKOUT RECAP

It's gotta be a bad sign that I had to seriously think about this past week to remember what I did.

{Monday} 5 mile treadmill run.  Can I just say that I wish there were funnier things on TV on Mondays?  I've been watching Dancing with the Stars, and while it is entertaining, it just isn't funny.  I find it easiest to run on the treadmill when I'm watching something funny.

{Tuesday} Rest

{Wednesday} 3 mile treadmill run (I think!?)  I'm pretty sure I would have felt guiltier if I hadn't done this...and I'm 95% sure that I did...

{Thursday} 30 minute bike ride and arm/shoulder weights.

{Friday} Birthday celebration with friends...no workout.

{Saturday} We had a practice for the primary program that morning and when I got home, I felt so exhausted.  I took a 1+ hour nap and then went for a 4 mile run.  It was all I could muster.  It was also my birthday, so I didn't want to spend the whole afternoon running.

This Week's Plan:
Running: 5, 3, 12
Other: Power pump, yoga

Have you tried any new exercises that you're loving lately?  Once this race is over, in a few weeks, I think I'll stick to running twice a week...I like it more that way.

WORKOUT RECAP

This week was pretty decent, as far as exercise goes.  There were some slow days, but some really good workouts, too!

WORKOUT RECAP

Guys! I'm getting back into a workout routine.  My weeks were like rollercoasters -- up and down, up and down.  I was so sick of the stress & I kept saying something needed to change.  I regrouped and have regained my focus on my health (I didn't really lose it)...I have felt less stress.  I know I am failing at things (a lot of things, mind you!) but I guess for right now, I just don't care.  I choose to be happy, and if that means I fail at certain things, so be it.

WORKOUT RECAP

This week hardly seems worth recapping, but just to keep consistent, I will.

{Monday} Rest -- still fairly sore from Saturday's race

{Tuesday} I was feeling lazy, so I tried running.  I went about a mile and decided I needed a little more time.  I probably should have stretched more in the days right after the race.  After my 1 mile, I took Duncan on a 2.5 mile walk.

{Wednesday} I went to the gym and rode the stationary bike for 6 miles.

{Thurs-Friday} Rest (calling it rest makes it seem more purposeful -- really I just didn't exercise!)

{Saturday} Zumba class with Sarah Jane.  It was a sub (because the real teacher ran the same race I ran) and her routines were pretty slow, which I liked because I could actually catch a decent amount of her moves.  I wanted to go for a run afterward, but I had to meet a friend and didn't have time.

{Sunday} I don't really exercise on Sunday, but to make myself feel less lazy, I will document that we took Duncan for a 4 mile walk.

This Week's Plan:
5 Miles (or whatever feels right)
Power pump class
5 miles
Yoga Class
6 miles

WORKOUT RECAPS (2!)

These last two weeks have been busy, busy, busy!

Only teachers know how much work goes into setting up a new classroom.  When people say teachers shouldn't get the summers off, they don't realize that a., most teachers work A LOT during the summers, and b., many of us make up those hours throughout the year.  Oh, and can I get credit for working in my sleep? I woke up with a pack of sticky notes clutched in my hands on Friday morning...stressed much?

I don't even know what my workout plans were (or, I'm too lazy to look)...but here are my workouts from the last two weeks.

Week 1

Tuesday: Power pump class
Wednesday: Ran 4.5 miles w/ a friend
Saturday: Stairstepper (5 mins), stationary bike (10 mins), elliptical (20 mins) -- couldn't seem to get into anything so I just bounced around.

Week 2:

Monday: Ran 12 miles --- ugh, this was the worst run yet. The first 4 miles were extremely boring and I just wanted to go home.  My legs were tired from the stair stepper, and I was short on energy.  My hip flexor started really bugging me around mile 9.  I don't think it will on my half though, because it is downhill and this run wasn't.
Thursday: soo embarrassing -- ran 1 (yes, just one) mile at the gym...and then went home.  I was tired and wanted to go to bed. I give myself a gold star for making myself go to the gym at all...any workout is better than none, right?
Saturday: Ran 8.5 miles.  Felt okay, but not great...  Probably due to the fact that I have been stressed, under rested, too snacky, and somewhat sedentary.  Will fix that this week!

Although I do feel bad about two weeks in a row where I only worked out 3 times, I am moving forward to a better next week.

Upward and onward!! :)

This week's plan:
Monday: 3-4 miles
Tuesday: Yoga
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: 2-3 easy miles
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Big Cottonwood 1/2 Marathon!!

My dad gets in on Thursday, and I am so excited!

WORKOUT RECAP

This week's plan:
10 mile long run
4 miles @ 1/2 marathon pace
Power pump class
4 miles easy

August 17, 2013

WORKOUT RECAP

This will be brief...

This week's plan:
3.5 @ 1/2 marathon pace
Powerpump class
3.5 Easy I added a little bicycling to this
45 minutes XT or 60 minute yoga depending how I feel
9 mile run
Um...I already am feeling a little bad about that last one, but my body has been so sore this week -- I am pretty sure bodies need good sleep in order to repair...
So when I was feeling guilty this morning, I decided that I wasn't going to hold myself to perfection.
I am going to try -- is it possible? -- to make up that run on Monday morning (as my long run this week).  A little nervous about running before the sun is up, but if I don't, I won't have enough time in the morning.

Either way, I'm doing my best, and I'll be fine!

Next week (first week of school):
10 mile long run
4 miles @ 1/2 marathon pace
Power pump class
4 miles easy

I'm doing the Color Run with a friend on Saturday morning.  That should be fun!

See ya on the other side!

TWO WORKOUT RECAPS

July 28 - August 3

Monday -- 2.5 Miles @ 1/2 Marathon Pace
Tuesday -- Powerpump Class
Wednesday -- 3 Mile Easy Run
Thursday -- Rest
Friday -- Rest
Saturday -- 6 Mile with Libby

August 4 - August 10

Monday -- 2 Mile easy run
Tuesday -- Run
Wednesday -- 3 Mile easy run & 30 minute bike ride
Thursday -- Powerpump Class
Friday -- Rest
Saturday -- 8.5 mile run -- this felt great while I was running until the last 1.5 miles.  I had a peanut butter Gu, but I couldn't really get it down -- it was too thick in comparison to the Honey Stinger energy shot I had previously.  My ankles were pretty sore for the next three days, probably due to the slant of the canyon road.

This week's plan
3.5 @ 1/2 marathon pace
Powerpump class
3.5 Easy
45 minutes XT or 60 minute yoga depending how I feel
9 mile run

WORKOUT RECAP

Monday
4 mile run.

This run isn't anything special.  It is all on the street, and there isn't much to look at.  However, it went a lot better than when I ran the same route a few weeks ago and had digestion pains (I think?) the whole time.

Tuesday
Hike to sliding rock.

I planned on going to the Tuesday night Power Pump class (I love that class), but Mark and Libby came into town, and instead we went on a short hike with the Evansons to a sliding rock.

Although it was very hot outside, I was a little hesitant to go down this slide.  The water was FREEZING, and the thought of sliding on uneven rock made me a little uneasy.

I had a bit of an inner dilemma, but ultimately, I decided that opportunities like this didn't come up every day, and I'd be disappointed if I passed it up.  I'm glad I went for it!  It was fun.  The water was seriously frigid (how do those people do the polar bear plunges in literal freezing water?).

Libby, Heather, and I each went down twice.  Mark, Scott, and Clayton each went twice on their own and then went together once.

This is not my picture. Hopefully I can get the ones we took and replace this one.  However, when Mark told me we were going to a rock slide, this is not what I pictured, so I figured that a picture would be helpful.

Wednesday
Boating with Mark + Libby & Scott + Heather.
Jillian Michael's DVD

Thank goodness for positive peer pressure.  If you know me well, you'd know that I am a little bit  finicky about getting enough sleep.  After the hike on Tuesday, we stayed up way too late chatting.  I decided that I wasn't going to go boating on Wednesday morning, because there was no way I could operate off of such little sleep.  When Libby called me to get me to come, I actually felt fine, and again, I felt like it was an opportunity that doesn't come around every day, so I decided to go.

It was a beautiful day, and I tried wake skating for the first time.  I'd never done it before -- I always had fears of falling and getting my legs chopped off by the prop, but the Evansons have an inboard boat, so I knew that wasn't actually possible.  Wake skating was a lot of fun.  It reminded me of snowboarding, which made me tell Clayton (for the umpteenth time) "We really have to go skiing/snowboarding this winter.  I mean, we live in Utah!"

I left my camera in their boat, so I don't have pictures until I get it back from them.

When I got home, I was feeling a little flabby, but I didn't have enough time to go to the gym, so I did Jillian Michael's Yoga Meltdown DVD.  At least it's something, right?

Thursday
Power Pump Class

Since I missed Power Pump on Tuesday, I decided I'd try to make it to one of the other classes.  I really like the class on Tuesday nights -- I've gone to that one the most, so I know the instructor's routine.  Regardless, on Thursday mornings they have four -- yes 4!! -- Power Pump classes back to back.  I guess it is a popular day for lifting!?

Anyway, I made it to the 9:15 class, and it was great!  I haven't been as consistent at Power Pump since the school year ended, and I can really tell the difference.  We did walking lunges, and I had to work hard to keep myself motivated, because I felt weak!  I'm sure we only did them for like four minutes (I think it was one song), but it felt like at least 10!

I felt great after I left class, though.  There is something about lifting that really makes me feel powerful!

Friday
3 mile run.

I bought new running shoes last week, and I was excited to try them out.  As it turned out, my mind was pretty distracted from my shoes, because it started raining about a minute into my run.  I don't mind running in the rain -- especially on a shorter run like this.  I worry a little about getting electrocuted from my ear buds -- yes I'm crazy -- but other than that, I really enjoy the rain.  Utah always seems so hot to me in comparison to Minnesota, so when it rains, running seems a little more refreshing.

Here is me after the run -- not looking my best, but feeling so alive!!

Saturday
Zumba class with Sarah.
Swimming with Haili & Wes.

I had originally planned on doing a longer run on Saturday, but was still feeling quite sore after Thursday's class.  Sarah invited me to do Zumba at the Lehi Legacy center, and I decided it would be fun.  They have Zumba at my gym, and I wouldn't have to pay there, but working out with a friend is an opportunity I don't get very often!

With just about every Zumba class, it takes some time to get the moves down.  If you go every week, you can a hang of the routines, but since it was my first time with this instructor, I spent most of my time watching and trying to at least get my feet doing the right thing.  It was fun, though!

We went swimming with Haili and Wes on Saturday afternoon.  We had the pool to ourselves, and while they played Pig, I had fun just swimming and jumping into the pool!

This Week's Plan
2 Miles @ 1/2 Marathon Pace
30 minutes Cross Training
2 Miles @ 1/2 Marathon Pace
Power Pump
5 Miles
